Reread The Great Adventures of Bel and Heln (And Sometimes Rhyss)

At least sections of it.  It’s not bad! 8D

The Great and Terrible Novel List

This is terrifying.

  • Sticks and Stones
  • The Great Adventures of Bel and Heln (And Sometimes Rhyss)
  • Dead Things
  • CATalyst
  • Exodus
  • Wake
  • Mercury
  • Gatekeepers
  • The Life of Ellie the Great (Or At Least Not Terrible)
  • Lights
  • Halflings

plus various ideas that have no name right now. 8D

Oh and sequels.

A lot of these have been written, but I feel the need to heavily edit them or rewrite them entirely.

I wish I wasn’t so slow. XD

Dreams

Can be an excellent source for story material (unless you’re Stephanie Meyer, but then again with some adjustments [i.e. making Edward a faerie instead of a vampire] it could have been a very interesting read).

For example, I had a great dream the other night that is slowly evolving into a story that basically boils down to a big advertisement to adopt cats at your local animal shelter. Am I going to write it?  Heck yes I am.  Do I feel bad about shamelessly promoting the adoption of adult cats from local shelters?  Of course not.

And you know, this is pretty much everything you need to know. The rest is detail, most of which is irrelevant…

Do you hate Twilight?

How about instead of complaining about it to the point of bothering random strangers with your dislike of the series…you do something constructive?  Like work on writing something better?

Not all prereaders are created equal

Some think they know all of the problems your story supposedly had by the end of the third paragraph.

Mary Sues

All main characters, by definition, are Mary Sues.

It’s just the way it is.  Stuff has to happen.  They have to be special.  That’s why they’re the MAIN CHARACTER.

So I would really like to see a stop to people who say that main characters are Mary Sues when they aren’t.  A few are, yes, I won’t deny that.  But for the most part they have to be the most interesting character…why else would you bother reading about them/watching their show?

Two chapters later

And agh it’s taking so long to edit this thing. XD  Part of me knows that once I get past the next chapter it’s going to get easier because the actual plot happens, the rest of me is already sick of editing.

NaNoWriMo!

It starts tomorrow!  I’m going to finally write Gatekeepers.  I think.

That weird moment when you think of a series of words (based one someone posting too many acronyms in a chat) and suddenly you have AN ENTIRE STORY with the world laid out before you like you just stumbled upon it by accident and you are really just writing from a real person’s perspective.  You are the captive audience and the characters are the authors.

I NEED TO STOP BABBLING BECAUSE I NEED TO WRITE LIKE RIGHT NOW.
